A certified hit.
Today, Ella Langley released another song from her forthcoming debut studio album Hungover called “You Look Like You Love Me,” which features guest vocals from Mr. Riley Green.
They teased the song some out on the road when Ella opened for Riley on his recent Ain’t My Last Rodeo tour, and it’s quickly become a fan-favorite strictly based on the teasers they’ve shared on social media, as well as some of the live performances.
The song itself definitely has a cool, sort of vintage and throwback sound to it thanks to the multiple speaking parts that are very much Johnny Cash-style, if you will, and make it really fun to sing (and talk, I guess) along with.
Ella says she and Aaron Ratiere wrote most of it, while Riley came up with the words for his second verse:
“I’m obsessed with this song, I think it’s so fun. I first wrote it with Aaron Ratiere, and then Riley came in and wrote the second verse. It’s a cute little love song and hopefully it’ll be someone’s wedding song one day.”
In terms of content, it finds Ella walking up to a cute cowboy at the bar making the first move in a bit of a role reversal… and let me just say, I admire her confidence and sincerely hope this is based on a true story:
“I handed that man a beer, and look him in the eyes,
And I said baby, I think you’re gonna wanna hear this,
And I told him, excuse me,
You look like you love me,
You look like you want me
To want you to come on home,
Baby I don’t blame you,
For looking me up and down across this room,
I’m drunk and I’m ready do leave
And you look like you love me”
In response, Riley admits that she’s “the prettiest think I’d ever seen in a pari of boots” and it was “every cowboys dream come true”:
“Well I was down at the local beer joint with a few of the guys,
When this cute little country girl caught my eye,
And boy let me tell you,
She was the prettiest thing I’d ever seen in a pair of boots,
Well she walked right up to me, handed me a beer,
Gave me a look like, ‘Let’s get out of here’
And that’s when I realized,
That she was every cowboys dream come true”
Hearing a song written from the woman’s perspective when it comes to making the first move is definitely different, especially in the country genre, and I love Ella’s fresh take on dating and what’s typically “acceptable.”
And obviously, having Riley on it adds such a fun layer in terms of making it a duet, and like I said, I can already see this being a big hit among both of their fan bases. It’s already one of my favorite singles released this year, and I’ll have it on repeat for the foreseeable future.

Ella’s Hungover album is due out everywhere on August 2nd, and also features previously released songs in “paint the town blue” and “nicotine,” in addition to two acoustic songs “cowgirl don’t cry” and “broken in” that I’m excited to hear.
