How Were Some Of Trace Adkins’ Worst Songs Written By Some Of Country’s Best Songwriters?

Music

This has always kind of bugged me…

How in the hell were songs like “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,”  “Swing,” and “Ladies Love Country Boys” written by Jamey Johnson and Chris Stapleton?

Back in 2005, Adkins released a powerful song called “Arlington,” a beautiful tribute dedicated to fallen our soldiers. But then… he followed it up with one of the biggest monstrosities in country music history: “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.”

And stupid songs are nothing new, but this one was written by the great Jamey Johnson, along with the pretty damn talented Randy Houser, and bro-country hitmaker Dallas Davidson.

How the hell does the guy that wrote “In Color,” “High Cost Of Living” and many more, write that pile of dog shit? I don’t get it…

“Honky Tonk Badonkadonk”

The song went number one, but then… he followed it up another dumpster fire, “Swing,” which was written by… CHRIS STAPLETON?

Now “Swing” didn’t have quite the commercial success that “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” did, but how the hell did the same guy that wrote great songs for Kenny Chesney, Josh Turner, George Strait, and more, not to mention his own music, come out of the writing room with a song like this? I don’t get it…

“Swing”

But then, Trace followed it up with another corny, albeit less offensive song, “Ladies Love Country Boys.” Yep, Trace was on a real heater in the early 2000s…

This one would bring Trace back to the top of the charts, and was once again…. written by Jamey Johnson. Like I said, it’s not as bad as the previous two, but still, I don’t get it…

“Ladies Love Country Boys”

Trace would follow that run up with another awful Jamey Johnson cut, “I Got My Game On,” and eventually release “Brown Chicken, Brown Cow,” another monstrosity in 2011 (although it wasn’t written by Johnson or Stapleton).

The point is, while Trace does have some classics like “You’re Gonna Miss This,” the aforementioned “Arlington,” “Just Fishin” and more, many of his worst songs were written by some of country music’s best songwriters.

Bit of head scratcher, isn’t it?
