There is no live Kingdom Day Parade on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2021 but a special televised program is planned on Jan. 18 on ABC-7. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Togetherhood Celebration: The City of Glendale presents the 5th annual event — virtually this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic — noon Jan. 14 (bit.ly/3qjbbEI). The Rev. Bryant T. Marks Sr., founder and CEO of the National Training Institute on Race and Equality, and a psychology professor at Morehouse College, is the keynote speaker. 50th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Brotherhood Celebration – Online: YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation present a multimedia event with keynote speaker Stedman Graham, CEO at S. Graham and Associates, 9 a.m. Jan. 15. Honorees: Dave Roberts, manager, Los Angeles Dodgers (Brotherhood Award), and Sharon Robinson, vice-chair of the Jackie Robinson Foundation (Human Dignity Award). 2021 MLK Day Celebration – A Virtual Festival from California African American Museum: The online event celebrating the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. begins with music from the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, 10 a.m. Jan. 18, followed by a Martin Luther King study group, 11 a.m., followed by a panel discussion “Black Workers and Social Justice: From Memphis, 1968, to Today,” 1 p.m., and a family story time and poetry workshop, 2:30 p.m. Free. MLK Service Celebration – City of Santa Clarita: Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda, members of the city council and the Human Relations Roundtable present a video on the Rev. Kingdom Day Parade 2021 – Virtual ABC-7 broadcast special: The annual in-person parade in Los Angeles has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic but the parade’s organizers, with partner ABC-7, present a look back at previous parades plus special guest commentaries on the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s civil rights leadership and legacy, 11 a.m. Jan. 18 on ABC-7.
