Buckle up folks, Lana Del Rey has officially announced she’s gonna dip her toes in country music.
The six-time Grammy nominee is known for her tear-jerking, melancholy pop music, and is gearing up to release her seventh studio album, Chemtrails Over The Country Club, on March 19th.
But on top of that, she has also revealed that she has recorded a “country music covers” album, as well as a collection of “other folk songs.” In fact, Del Rey has noticed a trend of Americana, country, and folk influences in some of her past songs.
In an recent interview with MOJO, Lana insisted that her music has always had shades of country:
“I went back and listened to ‘Ride’ and ‘Video Games’ and thought, you know they’re kind of country. I mean, they’re definitely not pop.
Maybe the way ‘Video Games’ got remastered, they’re pop, but there’s something Americana about it for sure. So let’s see how these things come out… I’m not going to have pedal steel guitar on every single thing, but it is easy for me to write.”
I’m intrigued to see how this will come out. I’m all for singers from different genres willing to step out of their comfort zones and try something new, especially somebody as talented as Lana Del Rey.
Imagine Del Rey covering some Shania, or some Dolly Parton, or even old Johnny Cash? Now that’s something that would catch my attention.
Stay tuned…
But until then, here’s the title track from her upcoming album Chemtrails Over The Country Club.
