Cody Jinks can sing the hell out of some rockin’ country music. But don’t be fooled, he can also sing the hell out of some ’90s country classics too.
On his most recent album, Red Rocks Live, Cody pulled out his killer cover of Alan Jackson‘s 1990 hit “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow.”
And in this video from way back in 2011, Cody covers Doug Stone’s 1990 heartbreaker “I’d Be Better Off (In a Pine Box)” at the Snorty Horse Saloon in Columbia, Missouri.
This has always been one of my all-time favorite country heartbreak songs. I mean, the lyrics are absolutely brutal… it’s cry-in-your beer, rip your heart out and stomp all over it.
And Cody’s haunting voice and style just make it that much better.
Love it. And apparently the crowd did too, going wild as he got to the chorus.
(But this brings up another important point: You never know who that guy onstage is going to go on to become, so maybe shut up and listen to him sing instead of talking through the whole thing. Jeez).
Anyways, back to Cody…
There’s really nothing better than a good sad country song, and Cody Jinks singing a ’90s heartbreaker just kicks it up another notch.
