Coronavirus: Here are California’s vaccination totals and tier levels on April 6

California

As of Tuesday, April, the California Department of Public Health’s vaccine dashboard showed about 26.1 million doses have been shipped throughout the state (3.82 million in the past week) and of those, 20.2 million have been administered (2.62 million in the last week).

According to Bloomberg’s dashboard tracking vaccine distribution, 34.5% of California’s population has received at least one shot and 18.3% of residents are fully vaccinated. California has the highest daily rate of doses administered in the country at 366,233 (down from 367,579 per day last week). The second-highest rate belongs to Texas with 277,198.

Los Angeles (5.05 million), San Diego (1.86 million) and Orange (1.64 million) counties have administered the most doses to date in California. About 99% of the data is recorded by the patient’s county of residence.

Tier assignments as of April 6

On Tuesday, April 6, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a plan to fully reopen California’s economy on June 15 if current COVID-19 trends hold. California would end it’s four-colored tier system at that point, but Gov. Newsom said California’s mask mandate wouldn’t be lifted anytime soon.

According to Tuesday’s update to the state’s four-tier coronavirus tracking system – changes take effect Wednesday – in California, two of its 58 counties will now be in the purple tier (considered widespread risk), down from three a week ago. There will be 22 counties in the red tier (substantial risk), 32 counties in the orange tier (moderate risk, up from 16 last week) and two in the yellow tier (minimal risk). There were 34 counties in the purple tier one month ago.

Los Angeles and Orange counties were the only Southern California counties in the orange tier last week, but Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino and Ventura counties are now entering the orange tier.

On Nov. 24, the state had 41 counties in purple, 11 counties in red, four in orange, two in yellow.

Counties are assigned to a tier based on metrics showing the speed and the spread of the virus in their borders.
