Pet owners in all unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County, and certain participating cities within the county, will get a break on late fees if they are renewing pet licenses and also for new licenses, from April 15 to June 30 thanks to Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.
The department understands that some pet owners may have delayed renewing or purchasing a new pet license since their family’s income may have been affected by economic issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic over the last year.
Pet owners who live in these participating cities in Los Angeles County may apply for a late fee waiver: Agoura Hills, Azusa, Carson, Inglewood, Irwindale, La Habra Heights, Maywood, Palmdale, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and Walnut. In addition, the department’s seven animal centers will offer a free microchip for non-microchipped pets licensed during the time period. Microchipping — establishing ownership and a great aid in reuniting a lost or stolen pet with their family — is required in all unincorporated areas and also in many cities in Los Angeles County.
