Coronavirus: L.A. County reported 2,907 new cases and 30 new deaths, Aug. 17

Los Angeles County public health officials reported 2,907 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 1,355,698 as of Tuesday, Aug. 17. The total number of cases represents 13.5% of Los Angeles County’s population.

Officials reported 30 new deaths linked to the coronavirus, for a total 24,935 deaths since tracking began. The total number of deaths represents 0.25% of Los Angeles County’s population.

There were 30 more hospitalizations reported since Monday, bringing the official count of hospitalizations to 1,679, with 22% in ICU.

According to the California Department of Public Health’s vaccines dashboard, 63% of Los Angeles County is fully vaccinated and more than 11,682,729 vaccine doses have been administered as of Aug. 17.

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
