Absolutely heartbreaking news from the Loretta Lynn camp today.
As historic rainfall drenched Middle Tennessee this weekend, devastating flood waters have hammered the area, including Loretta Lynn’s ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
And unfortunately, longtime ranch foreman Wayne Spears was swept up in the flood waters and did not survive.
The Lynn family shared the gut-wrenching news on Facebook this afternoon:
“With the heaviest of hearts we are saddened to report that our beloved foreman Wayne Spears did not survive being swept up in the flood waters.
Wayne has been a family friend to the Lynns and a fixture to the Ranch for decades and we are all devastated by his passing.
The Ranch will never be the same without him but he will always be remembered for his ready smile, kind heart, and willingness to go the extra mile for everyone around him.
Eventually we’ll rebuild our community, our ranch, our lives and our homes. but only God could build a man like Wayne Spears. There’s just no replacing that.
May he rest in peace.”

Areas of Humphreys County recorded more than 17 inches of rain on Saturday, easily breaking the state’s 24-hour rainfall record.
According to Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis, multiple casualties have been reported as well.
It’s an absolutely devastating scene in Tennessee right now… our hearts go out to the Lynn family, the Spears family, and all of those who lost their homes, their livelihoods, and their loved ones.

It’s devastating! So many homes, pets and peoples lives lost today. It’s hard to describe. The main road on the ranch is completely gone just before you reach the bridge. The entire county is destroyed by this water. People are missing and we will pick back up tomorrow to do everything we can. Please send any prayer you can.
