Coronavirus: L.A. County reported 2,600 new cases and 39 new deaths, Aug. 24

Los Angeles County public health officials reported 2,600 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 1,388,143 as of Tuesday, Aug. 24. The total number of cases represents 13.8% of Los Angeles County’s population.

Officials reported 39 new deaths linked to the coronavirus, for a total 25,114 deaths since tracking began. The total number of deaths represents 0.25% of Los Angeles County’s population.

There were two more hospitalizations reported since Monday, bringing the official count of hospitalizations to 1,724, with 23% in ICU.

According to the California Department of Public Health’s vaccines dashboard, 64% of Los Angeles County is fully vaccinated and more than 11,864,709 vaccine doses have been administered as of Aug. 24.

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
