Talk about some living legends coming together.
In celebration of 50 years together as a band, Asleep At The Wheel is gearing up to release a new album titled, Half A Hundred Years.
The new album is bringing on a ton of country music legends, including Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, and Lee Ann Womack, as well as George Strait and Willie Nelson, who teamed up on their most recent release, “Take Me Back To Tulsa.”
Benson weighed in on the project with Austin360:
“I was trying to get across the sacrifices you have to make in 50 years on the road and the other positive side of it.
The great experiences, the places I’ve been, and all the amazing people I’ve had the opportunity to meet and play music with.”
Written by Bob Wills, “Take Me Back To Tulsa” was originally released way back in 1941.
Merle Haggard recorded a cover of the song for his 1970 album A Tribute to the Best Damn Fiddle Player in the World (or, My Salute to Bob Wills) and Asleep At The Wheel originally recorded it for their 1973 album, Comin’ Right at Ya.
“To me it doesn’t get more Texan than George, Willie, and Asleep at the Wheel doin’ a Bob Wills classic.”
