Midland And Marty Stuart Team Up For Honky Tonkin’ “Break Your Own Damn Heart” From ‘Hixtape Vol. 2’

Music

I don’t know if I would’ve ever put Midland and Marty Stuart together, but it works.

The two acts teamed up for the sixth track from Hardy’s Hixtape Vol. 2 record on a good old fashioned honky tonkin’ song called “Break Your Own Damn Heart.”

On first listen, it’s easy to tell it was written by Midland members Jess Carson, Cameron Duddy and Mark Wystrach, as well as Hardy and Hunter Phelps, because it has that classic, silky western sound we’ve come to know and love from the Texas trio.

Along with Hardy’s clever wordplay and distinctive writing style, it describes the story of a man at a bar telling a girl who’s trying to flirt with him to “go break [her] own damn heart,” essentially (hence the title).

And as hard as that may be for him, she knows exactly what she’s doing, and he knows if he indulges her and buys her a drink, he’ll end up regretting it in the long run after recounting much of her (unsuccessful) track record with other guys who fell for the same thing:

Hardy also revealed the entire tracklist a couple days ago, and there will be a new song dropping every Friday until December 10th:

1. “Hometown Boys” featuring Matt Stell, Dierks Bentely and Hardy
2. “WD-40 4WD” featuring Sean Stemaly, Jimmie Allen and Justin Moore
