The day has finally come.
We’ve been anticipating Caned By Nod’s debut album, None The Wiser, for quite some now. And finally, Mr. Cody Jinks himself has delivered.
We’ve had a few singles released to give us an idea on what this new project would look like, and needless to say, it lived up to the hype.
As many die-hard Cody Jinks fans know, Cody got his start in metal music before making the jump to country music, and while I can’t imagine a world without Cody Jinks the country singer, you gotta respect what Jinks is doing here.
Going back to his roots, a passion project, scratching an itch… whatever you want to call it, he’s doing it and doing it well. Plenty of artists branch out and experiment with different genres, and nine times out of ten… it’s dogshit.
Caned By Nod on the other hand… it’s fantastic.
And at the end of the day, Cody’s never wanted to fit the mold of your average musician anyways. He’s done it his own way from the very beginning, and people love him for it. Not to mention, he’s had a ton of success calling his own shots… most independent artists can’t say that unfortunately.
And to make it ever better, he was working on None The Wiser and his latest country album, Mercy, at the exact same time.
He weighed in on what it was like working on two completely different projects at once:
“It was very different recording them at the same time. Literally, it was being in one studio and walking next door and going from this beautiful country song that we’re doing to just this really angry metal song, flipping a switch.
The actual art of writing was the only thing I really had to focus on to keep myself sane…the song comes first. If I’m not writing a great song, then I’m dead in the water. I really, really focused on being a better wordsmith.”
The album was produced and engineered by Edward Spear, and co-produced by Jinks’ longtime buddy and bandmate Joshua Thompson.
Remember when Ward Davis called this record a “fucking masterpiece”? He wasn’t lying…
Here’s a few early favorites:

“Can’t Hide The Truth”
