Jason Aldean released his 10th studio album, Macon, today.
It’s actually the first piece of a double album called Macon, Georgia, and the second half will be released in April of 2022.
The 15-song tracklist for this first record includes five live versions of some of previously released work, his #1 duet with Carrie Underwood “If I Didn’t Love You”, as well as a really cool cover of Bryan Adams’ hit “Heaven”.
The song was first debuted as a part of the A Night In Heaven movie soundtrack, but was later included as the third single on Bryan’s album, Reckless, in 1984. It was also his first number one single and third top 10 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
He was actually inspired to write it with Jim Vallance after going on the road opening for Journey in 1983 and hearing their song, “Faithfully”, night after night on the Frontiers tour. It almost wasn’t even included on Reckless at all, because Bryan and his producer, Jimmy Iovine, thought it was too “light”.
Tell that to my 13 year-old-self slow dancing to this in 7th grade… “light” is the last word I think I’d ever use to describe this song. Obviously, Bryan changed his mind at the last minute and it ended up becoming a massive #1 hit for him.
Jason has covered this song at live shows for years now, and even appeared on an episode of CMT Crossroads with Bryan where they sang the song together.
Fans have wanted him to put out a real deal studio version of it for a long time now, and I have to say, it’s a pretty damn good cover:
