1 dead, at least 6 injured during multi-vehicle freeway crash near Dodger Stadium

California

A person was killed and paramedics rushed three people to area hospitals Friday morning, Dec. 24, after a traffic crash involving at least a half-dozen vehicles — including two big rigs — on the 5 Freeway near Dodger Stadium, in Elysian Park.

A 67-year-old woman, a 29-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl were transported to area hospitals. Their conditions were unknown, said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Four other people injured in the crash declined transport, said Prange, adding that “one patient who was transported required extrication by firefighters with hydraulic rescue tools.”

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 8:07 a.m. to the southbound freeway at Stadium Way, said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Traffic was snarled on the southbound 5 and motorists were encouraged to find another route.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

A representative from the coroner’s office was called out to the scene at 8:55 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol .
