Upcoming George Jones & Tammy Wynette Series Adds Kelly McCormack & Katy Mixon To Cast

Unless it’s something that’s already in the works… a new season of Yellowstone, a new season of Ozark… I don’t really get all that excited for a new television show.

It just feels like a such a commitment, especially when you’re expecting a number of season…

However, this new George & Tammy series looks fantastic.

Starring Jessica Chastain as the First Lady of Country Music, Tammy Wynette, and Michael Shannon as the great George Jones, the upcoming Spectrum/Paramount Network series will dive into the tumultuous relationship of the two country music icons.

And according to Deadline, more cast members have been added to the roster.

Steve Zahn will take on the role of George Richey, the songwriter/producer who eventually married Tammy after her divorce from George Jones in 1975. It’s been alleged by Tammy’s daughter that her infamous kidnapping incident was just to cover up the fact that Richey beat her. He was also her manager.

Kelly McCormack will play Sheila Slaughter, one of Wynette’s good friends who eventually married George Richey a few years after Wynette’s death in 1998. Katy Mixon will play Jan Smith, a makeup and hair artist

The series is based on the book, The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George, and is set to premiere as an original series on Spectrum, before moving over to Paramount Network and Paramount+.

Jessica and Michael are rumored to be singing their own parts so makes sense that they would be working with vocal coach Ron Browning (Jamey Johnson, Alison Krauss, Martina McBride and more) on set.
