“If You’re Thinking You Want A Stranger” Is Unquestionably George Strait’s Most Underrated Single

Music

Arguing about George Stait’s most underrated song is probaly a useless dendavor… there’s just too many to name.

But, by all means… weigh in:

However, I’ve had this one on repeat lately… had to share it with the world.

I stopped by the ol’ record stay the other day and picked myself up a copy of George Strait’s 1985 Greatest Hits record. And HOT DAMN is it fire.

Featuring songs like “Unwound,” “Amarillo By Morning,” “Fool Hearted Memory,” “You Look So Good In Love,” and “Marina del Rey,” it’s loaded with some of George’s early heaters, but this one flew under the radar for me.

“If You’re Thinking You Want a Stranger (There’s One Coming Home)”… WAY underrated.

Written by Blake Mevis and David Wills, it was released by King George as the final single from his debut album Strait Country in 1982. With it still being early in his legendary career, it didn’t top the charts, but his follow up single “Fool Hearted Memory” went on to become his first #1 hit in a LONG line of #1 hits.

When folks start rattling of their favorite George Strait hits, this one rarely (if ever) comes up, but I’m telling you, one listen and that’ll change.

Now instead of saying “Amarillo By Morning” like everybody else, you can drop this tune on their ass like a true George Strait aficionado.

And how about the studio version:

George Strait Stars In 1995 Wrangler Commercial

Long live the ’90s.

Aside from the endless heaters in country music, the ’90s also brought us a ton of great commercials. No bells or whistles or fancy CGI, just stuff like King George sitting on the porch with his dog, strumming a classic country tune for Wrangler.

I mean, let’s call it like it is…

George Strait has some of the most underrated swagger known to man.

Just look at this guy.

Imagine sitting down on some rocking chairs in Texas with George and McConaughey, sipping bourbon and whiskey, talking life and the good ol’ days. Lord have mercy I just got all tingly.

While you day dream about that, take a time machine back to ’95 with George and Wrangler.
