On This Date: George Strait Released His Very First #1 Single, “Fool Hearted Memory,” In 1982

Nobody in country music has topped the charts more than King George.

And on this date in 1982, he released what would become his very first #1 single, “Fool Hearted Memory,” from his second studio album, Strait from the Heart.

Of course, it was the very first of a whopping (and record-setting) 60 #1’s for the King, but “Fool Hearted Memory” was the tune that started that incredible 30-plus year one of chart-topping singles. It was written by Byron Hill and Blake Mevis.

The song also appeared on the soundtrack to the movie The Soldier (which he had a part in), and went on to win an ASCAP award as one of the most-played songs of 1982.
