Wales set to lift final remaining COVID restrictions

The final remaining COVID restrictions are expected to be lifted in Wales, the government has said.

Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford will announce the update on Friday, with the restrictions to be removed from Monday, 30 May.

Wales moved to alert level 0 in January and the majority of measures were removed in March.

But there are still some remaining:

• Face coverings are legally required in health and care settings (but nowhere else)

• Workplaces and premises open to the public must continue to carry out coronavirus work assessments

• If you have COVID symptoms you must take a lateral flow test

• If you test positive you should self-isolate for at least five days.

These last remaining rules are set to be scrapped from Monday following the outcome of the latest three-weekly regulations review.

The Welsh government will continue to recommend people take simple steps to protect their health, including staying up to date with COVID vaccinations and self-isolating if they have symptoms.

The COVID situation in Wales has continued to improve over the last three weeks.

The number of COVID-related patients in hospital is gradually falling, but the government said the NHS continues to experience pressures from the pandemic.

England removed its final COVID restrictions in the country in February and international travel restrictions were removed in March.

Scotland lifted its final COVID restrictions in March while Northern Ireland removed all restrictions in February.
