Metrolink train kills pedestrian in Northridge-Van Nuys area

California

NORTHRIDGE — A Metrolink train struck and killed a pedestrian early Tuesday morning in the Northridge-Van Nuys area.

The crash occurred about 5:40 a.m. between the Northridge and Van Nuys stations, and involved Metrolink train 100 on the Ventura County Line, which was en route from Moorpark to Los Angeles, according to Scott Johnson of Metrolink.

The fatally injured person was in a “non-pedestrian” area, Johnson said.

According to reports from the scene, the person was fatally injured at Balboa and Roscoe boulevards, where the tracks are just west of the northern edge of Van Nuys Airport.

Information on the person’s identity was not immediately available.

About 40 people were on the train, and no one aboard was hurt, Johnson said. Alternate transportation was being arranged for the passengers, and the railroad tracks were closed while an investigation was conducted.
