John H. Francis Polytechnic High School waved farewell to its 2022 graduates on a warm night at 6 p.m. June 3 in the football stadium in Sun Valley.
The approximately 540 graduates — the “Valiants” — basked in the warmth of goodwill as they heard their names announced to a cheering crowd for the last but best time of their high school years.
Poly High School had two valedictorians at the ceremony, Sebastian Pereyra (Comprehensive School) and Bryan De La Luz Rojas (Magnet School), and two salutatorians, Brian Sierra (Comprehensive School) and Cindy Borrayo-Carrera (Magnet School).
Poly High is the second oldest high school in the school district. It was established in 1897 on a campus in downtown Los Angeles as a commercial branch of Los Angeles High School. It moved from Los Angeles and reopened in Feb. 1957 to students in the San Fernando Valley.
Fun facts: the school mascot is the book-carrying “Poly Parrot” representing the pursuit of learning and school spirit; the school colors are blue and gold; the motto is “Victory with Honor.” The school’s Alma Mater and Fight Song can be read here: www.polyhigh.org/apps/pages/AlmaMater
