Los Angeles Pierce College celebrated its 2022 graduates at 6 p.m. June 7 at the 74th Commencement Ceremony at Rocky Young Park on the Woodland Hills campus. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the first in-person commencement since June 2019.
The college welcomed about 150 graduates from 2021, who didn’t have an in-person commencement ceremony, along with 650 grads from the class of 2022. There are about 2,000 students total graduating this year from Pierce College, however not all attended the ceremony.
The college’s Interim President Aracely Aguiar congratulated the students as they walked on stage.
Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Sherman Oaks, was the keynote speaker. The student speaker was graduating business major Yanise Daaku.
Pierce College is a two-year community college that is part of the nine colleges of the Los Angeles Community College District (https://www.laccd.edu/Pages/default.aspx). It was founded in 1947 as the Clarence W. Pierce School of Agriculture.
Fun facts: the college mascot is the Brahma Bull; the first students were all male agriculture majors; the college colors, scarlet and red, were chosen in 1947 by the students.
