Sounds like Carrie Underwood is raising her kids right.
After a performance at CMA Fest last week, she talked to Entertainment Tonight about her new record, Denim & Rhinestones, as well as her performance at the Grand Ole Opry last weekend.
Guests in the audience hilariously caught a glimpse of her oldest son, Isaiah, breakdancing in the wings as she belted out Randy Travis’ “I Told You So,” and it sounds like she may have a little performer on her hands.
And while a future in show biz might be in the cards for Isaiah one day, she’s going to make sure he learns the value of a dollar and hard work before he leaves the nest.
Sure, he’s only seven years old, but Carrie says that she and husband Mike Fisher have him do little chores around their family farm already and pay him for his work.
Which means Isaiah’s gonna be footing the bill for his Father’s Day gift for Mike this year:
“I got freaked out today, I was like, ‘Tomorrow’s not Father’s Day, right?’ Cuz I haven’t done squat, so I gotta figure that out.
My son’s been doing chores around our farm, trying to earn money. So we will pay him for his work, he’ll go pull weeds in my garden and stuff like that, and he has quite the hefty savings. He donates some.
I’m gonna be like, ‘You’re gonna buy your daddy a gift, he ain’t my daddy. You earned that money, guess what? Guess what?’”
I’m sure she’s partially joking, but it’s still refreshing to hear that a megastar like her is going out of her way to instill those values in her sons and ensure they both have a great work ethic in order set them up for future success.
And who knows, maybe we’ll see Isaiah up on stage with Carrie at the Opry someday…
