Low-key July 4 parade brought uplifting red, white and blue spirit to Liberty Canyon neighbors on Monday

California

The Liberty Canyon neighborhood in Agoura Hills with street names like Freetown Lane, United Road and Yankee Drive was in a patriotic spirit as it celebrated the Fourth of July with their annual parade on Monday.

The low-key parade is a great fit for the neighborhood with some street names that reflect on an Independence Day theme. Although some neighbors cheered on the paraders from front yards, most of the neighbors in the enclave — about 200 — joined together for the fun, memory-making event.

Neighbors met up at one end of Liberty Canyon Road, near Park Vista Road, around 10 a.m. and marched on to Patrick Henry Place, to Country Glen Road, back onto Liberty Canyon, passing Revere Way, and back to a shaded area at the gathering spot. Although this year’s parade had a slightly different route, it stayed true to the spirit of the inaugural parade that was held about a decade ago.

A few classic car owners slowly led the way followed by people and pets, many attired in red, white and blue or some combination, and some waving small American flags as they leisurely proceeded on the short parade route. Some paraders walked, some were on non-motorized conveyances, but all were happy to cool down, especially with ice cream that was provided, at the end of Liberty Canyon.
