Talk about a MAJOR blast from the past.

Before Randy Travis was Randy Travis, he was Randy Ray, and before he was Randy Ray, he was Randy Traywick, just a youngin’ from Marshville, North Carolina trying to make a name for himself in the country music industry.

I’ve been a Travis kick here lately as his More Life documentary has officially been released to YouTube, and that led me to finding this hidden gem.

Travis’ first TV appearance on the show Variety Showcase back in 1978, when he was only 19-years-old.

This may have been the famed country singer’s first shot at national exposure, as he put together a masterful rendition of George Jones’ “All The Praises,” released on the singer’s 1972 George Jones (We Can Make It) album.

At the time, he had just begun recording with Paula Records, and was trying to find a way to get over the hump and find a charting song.

It’s known that Jones was one of Travis’ biggest inspirations in country music, so it’s no surprise that he’s covering a hit from one of country music’s all-time greats.

Randy Travis Shares Incredible Photo From The Kentucky Floods

“There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway
Why there’s not four of them, Heaven only knows
I guess it’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you
It’s what you leave behind you when you go”

Keeping all of the victims and the families affected by the awful flooding in eastern KY in our prayers
