Hollywood actor Gary Busey has been charged with sex offences related to incidents at a popular horror film convention in Philadelphia.

Busey, 78, was charged with two counts of fourth degree criminal sexual assault, one count of attempted criminal sexual contact and one count of harassment, Cherry Hill Police said.

Fourth degree sexual assault carries a sentence of up to 18 months, should the defendant be found guilty.

The actor had been visiting the annual Monster Mania Convention at the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill, Philadelphia, last weekend.

He had been a featured guest at the event, which is centred on horror films and merchandise.

Though police did not name the actor in its press release, the details were confirmed in US media.

Sky News has contacted Busey’s representatives for comment.

The actor is widely known for his role in Point Break, as well as his best actor Oscar nomination for his turn as the title role in the 1978 film The Buddy Holly Story.
