Mark your calendars, the 2023 LA County Fair is set to return in May, the second year in a row the annual event will be held during spring.
To celebrate its new springtime schedule, fair organizers have dubbed this year’s theme, “Spring Into Fair: Where Fun Blooms.”
The fair will kickoff May 5, 2023, part of the “biggest Cinco de Mayo party in the region” and run through Memorial Day, May 29, Fairplex officials said in a news release on Thursday, Sep. 1.
After the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 fairs, organizers decided to move the event to May to take advantage of cooler temperatures. In the past, the fair opened Labor Day weekend, when hot temperatures are common. This weekend is no exception as temperatures are expected to reach triple digits.
As a continued part of the fair’s 100th anniversary, Walter Marquez, Fairplex president and CEO, called the new theme a celebration of the event’s “shift to the beautiful days of spring.”
“Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth and we are engaged in a renaissance of sorts as we enter our second century,” Marquez said in a statement.
A notable return in 2023, FairKids Field Trips brings more than 150,000 students and teachers to the fair with free admission and classroom curriculum. The program was paused in 2022 as event organizers returned after a two-year delay.
“The LA County Fair is not only synonymous with fun, but with education,” said Heidi Hanson, LA County Fair Association Board of Directors chair, in a statement.
Other favorites will also be back, including pig races, barnyard animals, livestock competitions, and the Flower and Garden Pavilion.
Fair 2023 season passes will go on sale online Nov. 28, while advance daily tickets will go on sale soon, fair officials said.
