Cody Johnson’s done did it again.
We all know CoJo as one of the best acts in all of mainstream country music, and is one of the few keeping that traditional country sound alive and well on country music radio.
But also, the man can cover the ever livin’ hell out of a song as well.
From Gary Stewart’s “She’s Actin’ Single,” Garth Brooks’ “Shameless,” the Dixie Chicks’ “Travelin’ Soldier,” Vince Gill’s “When I Call Your Name,” George Strait’s “You Look So Good In Love,” to Brooks & Dunn’s “Red Dirt Road,” the list goes on and on, and every one of them are impressive in their own rights.
With that being said, the man made a visit to the Grand Ole Opry here recently, and he was right back at it again.
On a night dedicated to the music of the great Merle Haggard, he put together an impressive rendition of Merles hit, “The Bottle Let Me Down.”
Originally released by Haggard as the second single on his 1966 Swinging Doors album, “The Bottle Let Me Down” is all about going to the bar to drink his sorrows away over a woman, but the alcohol just wasn’t enough to get her off his mind.

And once again, Cody Johnson puts his own honky-tonkin’ Texas country spin to the song, and pays tribute to one of the greatest country artists of all time in an incredible way.
