A blaze that began shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in Van Nuys escalated into a larger structure fire. More than 85 firefighters were called in to fight the blaze, authorities said.
The fire began at a one-story commercial building on the 14000 block of West Gault Street, and later involved a structure in the 7000 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. A building facade had collapsed, but it was unclear which structure was affected.
One firefighter was transported with a non-life-threatening injury, LAFD said.

Due to the possibility of additional building collapse, an emergency traffic alert was issued for Van Nuys Boulevard between Vose and Sherman Way. LAFD advised drivers to avoid the area and use numerous alternate routes.
The fire’s cause was not immediately clear.
