The United States Air Force is celebrating its 75th anniversary Oct. 15-16 at Edwards Air Force Base for the first time in 13 years.
The event also gives a hats off salute to the 75th anniversary of the October 14, 1947 breaking of the sound barrier by the legendary test pilot Chuck Yeager over Edwards Air Force Base.
Air show performances begin at 11 a.m. both days. Performers to watch for include the USAF Thunderbirds, Wings of Blue, Vicky Benzing Aerosports, Vertigo Airshows — Bob Carlton, Chuck Coleman, Greg Colyer T-33, Rob Holland Ultimate Airshows and Wardog Airshows AT-6 Texan. For some of the latest ideas in science, technology, engineering and math check out hands-on displays at the STEM Expo in Hangar 1600, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. both days. There is also a Kids Zone for young children and a beer garden for ages 21 and older.

- Entrance to the base is through either the North or West gates. The North gate is off of SR-58, and the West gate is off of SR-14 and Rosamond Boulevard (check the map on the website for directions).
