I love me some Kellyoke.
We’ve seen Kelly Clarkson do countless country covers on the Kellyoke segment of her show before, and she never fails to impress.
But this one might be my favorite yet…
Kelly took the stage with a special guest, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, to perform Loretta Lynn’s very first #1 hit “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind).”
Loretta sadly passed almost two weeks ago now at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, at the age of 90, and Kelly is very open about her love of good, real country music, so it’s cool to see her pay tribute to the country queen this way.
And hey, Dwayne clearly isn’t a country music superstar, and Kelly could sing just about anybody under the table, but it was a really sweet gesture and a kickass duo if I’ve ever seen one. He held his own up there, and I think they actually sounded really good together.
Dwayne has just as good of taste in country music as Kelly, so it’s great to see them bringing it to the daytime TV masses like this.
“Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’” was released in late 1966, and peaked at the top spot of the charts the following year in 1967.
It ultimately became the title track to her album of the same name, which was eventually certified Gold by the RIAA in 1970, and Loretta was the first woman in country music to receive such an honor.
Talk about an all-time country classic:
