One Of George Strait’s Very First Interviews Is An Absolute Classic: “Supposedly Make A Cowgirl’s Jeans Twitch At 100 Yards”

Music

Incase ya haven’t heard, George Strait himself has announced six new stadium shows set for 2023, featuring Phoenix, Seattle, Denver, Milwaukee, Nashville, and Tampa, with no other than Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town joining him as well.

It’s the most extensive tour the King has been on since his two year The Cowboy Rides Away tour in 2014, and needless to say, he’s ecstatic:

“When I walk through those curtains and see those smiling faces, my feet don’t touch the ground again ’til I walk back out and get on that bus that got me there.

That’s from a song I wrote called ‘I’ll Always Remember You.’ It’s a true statement.

When we talked about doing these six shows next year with Chris, it was a no brainer for me. I was all in.”

Now that Strait is getting back on the tour bus once again, I’ve found myself going down some rabbit holes, and rediscovered this hidden gem…

The year was 1982.

King George had a few singles under his belt, including his first number one, “Fool Hearted Memory,” and he was gearing up for a show at Son Valley in Victoria, Texas.

“Back when I was the 19-year-old associate producer for “The Weekend Journal” on Victoria, Texas’ tiny ABC affiliate KXIX-TV, one of the artists we interviewed was a fresh young country artist with a winning smile.

His name was George Strait, and ever since our show went “Strait” off the air in 1982, this footage has gone unseen.”

And the best part of the entire interview? When the host introduces him as the guy that can…

“supposedly make a cowgirl’s jeans twitch at 100 yards.”

HAHAHAHA…. I love it.

I don’t even really know what it means, but I love it.

George Strait ladies and gentleman… the King of Country, the most #1 singles of all time, and the only man in country music history that can make a cowgirl’s jeans twitch at 100 yards.

Long live the King.
