Talk about one helluva group.
We all know Mike Harmeier as the mastermind and front man for Mike and the Moonpies.
Harmeier is one of the best singers/songwriters in the independent country music realm, and Mike and the Moonpies have been killing the game for over a decade now, including their 2021 One to Grow On album, one of our favorites here at Whiskey Riff.
And then you have Memphis Kee, a red dirt rocker who may not be as recognizable of a name as Harmeier, but the guy has all of the tools to be a household name here in the near future, and I have a feeling it’s only a matter of time before he is.
With that being said, the two teamed up with Reckless Kelly’s Cody Braun for a kickass cover of Ryan Adam’s song, “Come Pick Me Up.”
Released in 2000 on Adams’ critically-acclaimed Heartbreaker album, it’s one of the most popular songs in his entire catalog.
Kee weighed in on why he chose to cover the song:
“I have been listening to this song since it was first released. It has been a staple at our live shows. We have always played it a little harder and never held back our emotions when we get into it.
Our fans look forward to hearing this at the end of a show and we thought it was a perfect song to include on this record. Mike Harmeier sings amazing harmonies and a verse on this recording. Cody Braun also lends his immense talents on fiddle.”
Kee also weighed in on the music video, and getting Harmeier to join in as well:
“When Mike signed on for the music video as well, we knew we had to bring our‘A’game. And, I believe that’s exactly what we did. We are all very proud of how it turned out and excited for everyone to see our first full production music video.”
“Come Pick Me Up” is the third single released from Memphis Kee’s full-length debut album, ’Wimberley.’
