Randall King Gets In The Holiday Spirit With Cover Of Randy Travis’ 1989, “Old Time Christmas”

Music

Randall King covering Randy Travis is one heck of a combo.

And now that Thanksgiving is over… Christmas music is officially acceptable.

Randall King has released his own rendition of Randy’s “Old Time Christmas,” with all of its traditional country Christmas charm.

Originally released on Randy Travis’s 1989 Christmas album, Randy Travis An Old Time Christmas, the album later received a Gold Certification, and the “Old Time Christmas” song was a fast favorite for listeners, recalling all the old nostalgic holiday traditions:

“Now the gifts are all open
The kids in the yard
Granddad nods off in a chair
And the smells from the kitchen
Are to fine to mention
And there’s peace on earth everywhere

 It’s an old time Christmas
Family and friends ’round the tree
It’s an old time Christmas
Like the ones in my memory…”

Randy went on to remaster the album, releasing it in November of last year. The revitalized project included a few unreleased songs from his vault as well.

In an interview with CMT following the announcement of the re-release, Randy’s wife Mary commented on Randy’s passion for the album:

“The beauty of Randy’s music is that he leaves a bit of himself in every song he sings because he always puts his heart and soul into it.

It’s easy to believe a song when it’s performed and recorded like that.”

Randall King does a fantastic cover of this selected track, keeping all the conventional music and vocal stylings of Randy’s ’80s version.

And I for one am loving all these old class Christmas covers from new favorites.
