Maren Morris Apologizes To LGBTQ+ Members On Behalf Of Country Music During ‘Drag Race’ Appearance: “I Just Want To Say I’m Sorry”

Maren Morris recently experienced what she called a “decade-long dream” as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Maren appeared on the show this past Friday, participating in a chat with the 15 contestants left who are fighting for their spot to be named America’s Next Drag Superstar:

And during a conversation that took place in the Werk Room on MTV’s official aftershow, Untucked, she got pretty candid, sharing some of her personal struggles in what it’s taken her to make it as one of mainstream country’s biggest stars, saying:

“I’m 32, but I’ve been performing since I was 10. American Idol, I tried out for. America’s Got Talent, The Voice — they all said no.

I was devastated, obviously. And now I’m so glad I took the long way… because now people audition with my songs on those shows!”

She then took time to apologize to members of the LGBTQ+ members on behalf of the country music community:

“Coming from country music and its relationship with LGBTQ+ members, I just want to say I’m sorry.

And I love you guys for making me feel like a brave voice in country music. I just thank you guys so much for inspiring me. I’m gonna cry! I gotta go!”

Mistress Isabelle Brooks responded with this:

“Just you being here shows you’re an ally.”

After Maren left the set, a contestant named Spice told Drag Race producers:

“I love hearing Maren share her story, because a lot of times with country artists, they can’t really express their more progressive ideals.

Just her being here shows she’s down and can roll with the LGBT.”

It’s no secret that Maren is very outspoken about her political beliefs on social media, as she recently got into a huge social media fight with Brittany Aldean a short while back, after Brittany posted a video of herself putting on makeup on Instagram, saying she was thankful her parents never “changed her gender when I went through my tomboy phase.”

You can read more about in in-depth HERE, but basically, the two went back and forth on transgender rights and larger gender rolls in society. Maren even skipped most of the CMA Awards because of it, which you can read about HERE.

RuPaul’s Drag Race airs Friday nights on MTV at 8 p.m. EST, with Untucked airing immediately after.
