Community meetings bring people together for exchange of ideas and memorable shared experiences. Here’s a sampling of  meetings and charity/volunteer events in the San Fernando Valley area.

Jan. 23

San Fernando Valley Male Chorus: The chorus is seeking singers of all ages who enjoy four-part male harmony, accompanied by a band. Rehearsals, 8-9:30 p.m. Mondays until the spring concert in May. Filing for Neighborhood Council Elections in the San Fernando Valley: Thinking about filing as a candidate for a neighborhood council? Chatsworth Neighborhood Council, using the “Selection” process, has a filing period from now to Feb. 16 (details: www.chatsworthcouncil.org/2023-selection). Also, Feb. 3 is the opening date for filing if you are a stakeholder in one of these nine councils:  Arleta, Foothill Trails District, Mission Hills, North Hills East, Pacoima, Panorama City, Sunland-Tujunga, Sun Valley Area and Sylmar (filing closes for these councils on March 20). Northridge Woman’s Club: The organization is accepting applications for new members. The woman’s club is a civic, philanthropic and social group that helps the community through financial and personal contributions. The Power of TV – Reshaping Breast Cancer Narratives: A panel discussion on the inequalities found in health care services for people of color who seek information on health risks, prevention and treatment, 9 a.m. The talk focuses on young women who are most affected by early onset breast cancer, the differences in access to risk information and health care and how television programs can help them take action for their health. LA Sanitation and Environment’s City Facilities Recycling Program’s Clothing Drive: Donations of new or gently-used (washed and clean) jackets and sweaters, pants, shirts and socks for children, men and women are accepted Jan. 9 to March 3.
