Music

Absolutely tragic news out of Nashville tonight.

Kyle Jacobs, the singer-songwriter husband of singer and former American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler, was found dead at the couple’s Nashville home this afternoon, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers got a call for an apparent suicide at the residence this afternoon after a man shot himself. Police say that Kellie was asleep until shortly before the incident, and called 911 when she and an assistant were unable to open the upstairs bedroom door.

In a statement, police confirmed that the Jacobs’ death is being investigated as a suicide:

“Nashville’s Department of Emergency Communications received a 911 call at 1:21 p.m. Friday from a home on Sneed Road in the police department’s West Precinct. Officers and Nashville Fire Department personnel responded and located resident Kyle Jacobs, 49, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in an upstairs bedroom/office. His death is being investigated as an apparent suicide.”

The 49-year old songwriter, originally from Bloomington, Minnesota, has written hits like “More Than a Memory,” which was recorded by Garth Brooks, and Lee Brice’s “Rumor,” along with songs that have been recorded by Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Clay Walker, Trace Adkins and many others.

In 2014, he won an ACM Award as a producer on Lee Brice’s “I Drive Your Truck.”

Jacobs married Kellie Pickler in 2011, and the couple starred together in the CMT reality show I Love Kellie Pickler.

Absolutely hate this for everybody involved. Prayers to Kellie, their families and all of their friends.

Rest in peace, Kyle.
