Shania Twain Says Her Ex-Husband Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange Is Still With Her Former Best Friend

Music

Shania Twain is quite an open book these days.

Since she released her first album since 2017, Queen of Me, last month, she’s been doing all sorts of press and telling some really great stories — my favorite is still about the time she turned Prince down when he asked her to collaborate.

And this past week on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s Armchair Expert podcast, they asked her about her former producer and ex-husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange.

The two share on child together, Eja, and got divorced in 2010.

It’s a pretty wild story how it all went down, too, as Mutt is now married to Shania’s former best friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud, and Shania ended up marrying Marie’s ex-husband, Frederic Thiébaud, though she says she didn’t know him very well before she got divorced.

And as it turns out, she confirmed Mutt and Marie-Anne are still together, as are Shania and Frederic, which she confirmed on the podcast.

She added that she and Mutt still co-parent well together despite how their marriage ended:

“Mutt and I parent well together — for people who don’t talk to each other. We’ll just text.

We both love our son so much, so we don’t play any games like that. We have the same priority; we share spaces for him. No nonsense there.”

Mutt was instrumental in her early career, producing albums like her 1995 The Woman in Me, in addition to co-writing songs like “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!,” “I’m Gonna Getcha Good!” and “No One Needs to Know,” just to name a few quickly.

He helped her find her voice and, ultimately, become the 90’s queen and international pop country star we know and love today.

She also told Dax and Monica that she was never obviously interested in Fred before the whole scandal happened, when she saw in him in a totally new way:

“It was a beautiful surprise how gracefully and graciously he was dealing with navigating the same pain. Fréd’s so smart.

This is one of the smartest people I know, and he didn’t know [about the affair] either. That helped me feel better.

Everyone gets what they deserve. I got what I deserve. I got the greatest man on the planet.”

All’s well that ends well, I guess…

Though, Shania understandably doesn’t speak to her former best friend anymore, and has only talked about her publicly a few times.

She told Any Cohen she had a “panic attack” after running to her once in public quite a few years ago.

Shania’s only publicly spoken about Marie-Anne a handful of times, too, including in 2015 when she told Bravo’s Andy Cohen that she had a “total panic attack” running into her ex-friend, and could only get a few words out to her:

“I just told her that she was a bad person. That’s all I could get out!”

Shania is gearing up to head out on an extensive world tour that kicks off on April 28th in Spokane, Washington.
