Wynonna, Cody Johnson, Billy Gibbons, Slash & More Teaming Up For Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute At 2023 CMT Awards

Music

What a group.

CMT announced that an eclectic group of artists including Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Chuck Leavell and Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band), Cody Johnson, Paul Rodgers and Slash, alongside LeAnn Rimes and Wynonna Judd as “The Honkettes,” will all take the stage together at this year’s CMT Awards.

The performance will honor the 50-year anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s 1973 debut album (Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd), in addition to being a tribute to founding member and longtime guitarist Gary Rossington, who passed away earlier this month.

Cody Johnson and Paul Rodgers will take lead vocals alongside with Billy Gibbons, with Slash and Warren Haynes on electric guitar as they sing what CMT says are two of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s biggest hits that have yet to be revealed.

And while I don’t know that I could’ve ever dreamed up such a lineup, they’re a group of very talented and respected artists in their respective genres, and I’m actually excited to see and hear what they’ve come up with.

I don’t think we’ll ever see this group on stage together again, that’s for sure… honestly, it’s probably going to be one of, if not the only, parts of the show I watch.

This years CMT Awards show will air on April 2nd on CBS at 8pmET, and will be hosted by Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini live from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
