That’s how you do the national anthem – Kentucky style.
Today was the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby, and there was plenty to talk about before the race even started.
Early this morning, it was announced that Forte, the favorite to win the Derby, had been scratched after not receiving clearance from the vet at Churchill Downs.
That sent Vegas scrambling with the frontrunner out of the race just hours before post time.
But Kentucky native Carly Pearce was on hand to get things back on track (no pun intended) with an incredible version of our national anthem ahead of the Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports.
When it was announced that she would be singing the national anthem at this year’s race, Carly called it a “major bucket list moment” to get to perform the anthem in her home state at one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
And of course Carly absolutely knocked it out of the park with her performance – something that seems rare these days with artists who always seem to try to do too much when they sing the Star Spangled Banner.
With the frontrunner out of the race, Mage would go on to win the 149th Kentucky Derby after coming into the day at 17-1 odds.
Although I’d have to say Carly Pearce came out a pretty big winner in her home state too.
