Paul Cauthen Cancels Two Shows In Tennessee After Drug Arrest In South Carolina Earlier This Week

Paul Cauthen finds himself in some hot water.

Cauthen had to cancel his Knoxville, Tennessee show tonight, May 19th, at The Concourse, as well as his show at Loretta Lynn’s Hurricane Mills Ranch for the Tennessee Motorcycles & Music Revival on Saturday, after being arrested yesterday morning.

The singer was arrested Thursday morning, May 18th, in the Isle of Palms, South Carolina and charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, as well as manufacturing and possession of controlled substances with the intent to distribute in Schedule I, II, and III. His bond was set at $2,275 for the possession charge and $25,000 for the manufacturing and distribution charge.

In a statement to Saving Country Music, Cauthen’s manager said that his arrest was due to possession of marijuana:

“Paul was arrested for marijuana possession in Isle of Palms, South Carolina on Thursday morning. He is out on bond now and looks forward to telling the rest of his story soon.”

Due to this legal run-in, Cauthen took to Instagram to address his fans and the canceled shows.

“Sorry folks. Some things have happened, and we won’t be making these shows, unfortunately.

We will go into further detail in time. God bless all of you. Be kind to one another.”

This, however, is not Paul Cauthen’s first run-in with the law.

In a 2014 interview with NPR, Cauthen recalls the first time he was arrested.

“I chose more of a rough past due to having to grow up so soon at a young age. Once I learned how to really drink beer and whiskey, I really did it with a meaning, so – and smoking pot and everything else – everything under the sun.

Well, what happened was I got caught with weed, got put on probation, partied, got caught with some drug charges. They gave me the sentence that I’m going to have to do six months. My mom was freaking the hell out right before I went in there, you know?

I mean, she was like saying don’t be scared. And she’s crying, and I was like, how am I supposed to not be scared when you’re crying? Then they handcuffed me and put me in jail.”

Cauthen is very open about his past and how he used the money he made from selling drugs to support his music career. Now, being in the limelight, some would say the risk paid off.

Can you believe we’re still arresting people for a bit of weed?

Good Lord…
