Showing the kids how it’s done.
A new American Idol was crowned last night, as Iam Tongi was named the winner of what feels like at least the 100th season of the show so far.
But before the winner was announced, the show brought out some seasoned vets to show the up-and-comers how it’s done.
Lainey Wilson joined Jelly Roll on the show for an emotional performance of their duet “Save Me,” which the pair debuted a couple weeks ago at the ACM Awards.
The song is a revamping of the track from Jelly Roll’s 2020 album A Beautiful Disaster, before he made the switch to country music. The duet with Lainey will be featured on his upcoming album Whitsett Chapel, which will be released on June 2.
After his duet with Lainey, Jelly Roll was joined on stage by Idol contestant Oliver Steele for a duet of Jelly Roll’s song “Need a Favor.”
The duet with Jelly Roll wasn’t Lainey’s only performance of the night. She was also joined by contestants Marybeth Byrd and Warren Peay for her own single “Heart Like a Truck” later in the show.
And in case you missed it, here’s Jelly Roll and Lainey Wilson’s performance of “Save Me” from the ACM Awards.
