They don’t call him The King for nothin’…
George Strait set back-to-back attendance records at two different stadium shows over the past couple weeks, as a record-setting 46,641 fans packed into to Milwaukee’s American Family Field this past Saturday evening to see him play, following the previous weekend’s record-setting 63,891 attendees at Columbus’s Ohio Stadium for Buckeye Country Superfest.
The Milwaukee records bests The Beatles frontman Paul McCartney’s 2013 record by over 2,000 people, which is great company to be mentioned in anywhere near his record, but to top it is really something else.
You just absolutely love to see it.
I mean, selling out stadiums is something most artists can only ever dream of, and to be breaking attendance records at the age of 71 just goes to show the influence, impact and importance of George Strait’s career not only in country music, but the greater music landscape as a whole.
Of course, the ever-humble Strait thanked his fans for showing up and showing out each and every concert he plays:
“We truly have the best fans in the world. There’s nothing like seeing their faces when I walk on stage with my Ace in the Hole band jamming to ‘Deep in the Heart of Texas.’
The energy they’re giving back to us is indescribable. I’m very grateful to all of the fans who come out to see us for these shows and I can’t wait to see you at the next one.”
And during what I’m sure was one of the coolest parts of the evening, opener Chris Stapleton joined Strait on stage for a duet of the song he co-wrote with The King in mind, “Love’s Gonna Make It Alright.”
Here’s to the one and only George Strait, and him continuing to break attendance records at stadiums across the country for years to come:
