Happy Monday, y’all.
Today for the Song of the Week, we have a new tune from Muscadine Bloodline, which is actually a cover of Jimmy Eat World’s “Hear You Me.”
Muscadine released their Teenage Angst EP last week (a takeoff of their recent studio album Teenage Dixie), which is a four-song project full of punk rock songs that, along with country music, inspired their formative teenage years.
And of course, you will certainly recognize “Hear You Me” if you grew up listening to similar music, and the song was included on Jimmy Eat World’s 2001 Bleed American album.
Bleed American is their fourth studio, and was actually re-released as the self-titled Jimmy Eat World record out of respect following 9/11 attacks since it was put out just months prior in July. That name stay until 2008, when it was re-released with its original title again.
Possibly my favorite pop culture reference of the song is when it was included in the 2004 movie A Cinderella Story starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray, in addition to being featured on the TV series One Tree Hill (if you know, then you just know).
And in addition to this Jimmy Eat World banger, the Muscadine boys also covered Blink-182’s “Adam’s Song,” Mayday Parade’s “Jamie All Over” and Yellowcard’s “Only One.”
Muscadine definitely put their own, country spin on these covers, which fits them and their sound perfectly and has easily made this one of my favorite projects put out so far in 2023.
It’s certainly nostalgic in the best way to hear these songs again, and if you’re anything like me, then you know that it’s always the perfect time to channel that inner emo kid.
It’s not just a phase…
