The nonprofit Guardians presented its third annual “Remembering 9/11 — Patriots Day Car Show” on Saturday, Sept. 9, in Valencia.

The remembrance ceremony, beginning at 8:15 a.m., included the National Anthem sung by special guest soloist Terrell Edwards and a presentation of colors by Young Marines Santa Clarita Valley.

Guest speakers shared their thoughts about the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. Congressman Mike Garcia and Santa Clarita Mayor Jason Gibbs were scheduled to attend.

Guardians was founded in 2015 by a group made up of firefighters, law enforcement and military personnel who wanted a support group for people who shared first responder or military experiences and stresses. The group gets involved in other community events during the year.

The public was treated to a breakfast, but donations were appreciated. Car club members and car enthusiasts were invited to show their classic cars, muscle cars, exotics, 4x4s and antique cars during the event that ran until noon.

Patriots Day was first observed on Sept. 11, 2002 as a national day of remembrance to mourn and reflect on the lives lost during the Sept. 11 attacks. It is not a federal holiday but individuals and groups often plan a day of service to their community.

Donations during the Saturday event benefited the Guardians Support Center. Donations at any time may be made through the website.

The free event was held in the parking lot of Higher Vision Church, 28776 The Old Road, Valencia.
