Lainey Wilson Says She Writing Love Songs For The First Time: “That’s Weird For Me… I’m Excited To Share This Side”

I can’t wait to hear these new love songs.

Lainey Wilson has had what many would call a breakout last year or two (that even feels like an understatement), though she was in Nashville for right around a decade grinding and busting her ass to get to this moment.

Suffice all that to say, she’s more than earned it and certainly deserves it, and as a longtime fan of hers, I absolutely love to see her getting so much attention and becoming the superstar that I know she’s always been.

I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her yet, either, but from what I’ve seen and heard, it sounds like she really is the absolute gem that she comes across as, so of course, I think all of us are rooting for her and hope she is happy and in love with whoever she chooses to date.

In a recent interview with Audacy’s Katie & Company, she revealed that she’s been writing some love songs for the first time ever, mostly due to her relationship with boyfriend Devlin “Duck” Hodges, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.

She debuted him, so to speak, on the ACM Awards red carpet earlier this year, and while she keeps most of the details understandably out of the public eye, it sounds like he’s been inspiring a lot of the music she’s been working on.

Lainey admitted that she’s in love, and “excited to share this side of my life,” adding that it’s “weird” for her to write those kinds of songs, and while she won’t get too “mushy gushy,” it will be a new perceptive for fans of her music:

“I am in love… I’m excited to share this side of my life. That’s weird for me, that I’m able to write those kinds of songs. I will say, I don’t think I will ever be the kind of love song writer that’s going to be mushy, gushy, like pour my heart out to ya.

I think it’s going to be more of the ‘I’m a strong woman and I gotta man who’s OK with it kind of thing. He knows what it’s like to start from the ground up. He knows what it’s like to have a dream at a very young age… we understand each other.

He knows how important this job is to me and this business and he knows I have worked my butt off to be here and ain’t nobody gonna stop me from doing what I need to do.”

Lainey most recently put out her Bell Bottom Country record last year, so while it’s likely going to be next year at the earliest before we hear any new music, I think we might hear some stuff that’s a bit different than what we’re used to from the Louisiana native.

I, for one, am very excited and intrigued to hear this new perspective from her, and it’s going to be fun knowing that she’s writing from personal experience and being treated like the queen that she is.

She most recently scored her fifth career #1 single with her fan-favorite song “Watermelon Moonshine” at the end of September, and I’m sure will have another one on the way with whatever song she send to radio next.
