Singer goes from daytime to late-night to talk about “Piece by Piece” and accidentally turning down chance to collaborate with Mariah Carey

Kelly Clarkson took a break from singing Kellyoke in the daytime hours to visit The Tonight Show, where she performed “Lighthouse,” played a game of “Back That Track Up,” and sat down with Jimmy Fallon for an interview.

As musical guest, Clarkson took the stage to deliver her Chemistry ballad “Lighthouse,” with the singer accompanied only by a pianist, cellist and backup vocalist.

Clarkson also joined Fallon to play a new game called “Back That Track Up,” where the two tried guess hit songs that are played backward. Clarkson, to put it nicely, struggled with the game, only managing to answer one song semi-correctly: The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside,” but after first guessing “Somebody Told Me.” Fallon even beat her to her own song when “Stronger” was played backward and pitched up:

Finally, after spending now-five seasons as a daytime host, the roles were reversed and Clarkson was the interviewee, with the singer and Fallon talking about her new album Chemistry, writing her post-divorce anthem “Piece by Piece,” and accidentally turning down an opportunity to collaborate with Mariah Carey:
