The singer will join Swift for 22 shows on the Eras tour beginning in November

Sabrina Carpenter‘s Red era is in full swing — and it’s dropping the same dead weight of an ex as she did on her latest album, Emails I Can’t Send. For Spotify Singles, the singer slipped into an airy, country twang to deliver a haunting rendition of Taylor Swift‘s “I Knew You Were Trouble,” the narrative of which she has come to know all too well in her own life.

Carpenter completely stripped away the EDM highs that defined the Max Martin and Shellback-produced Red single. The downtempo production of her version emphasizes each lyric of heartbreak, crafting an emptiness around the bridge as she sings: “And the saddest fear comes creepin’ in/That you never loved me, or her, or anyone, or anything.”

In the upcoming month, Carpenter will pick back up where she left off as an opener on the Latin American leg of Swift’s acclaimed Eras tour. She’ll also join the singer on the road in Australia and Singapore early next year.

She first performed on the massive stadium stage for four nights in Mexico City this past August. During her set each night, Carpenter played a video of her nine-year-old self singing “Picture to Burn” from Swift’s 2006 debut album, Taylor Swift.

“That is one of my main inspirations ever since I was a little girl, and now to just be able to watch that show every night is going to be so special,” Carpenter told Billboard earlier this year. “It’s so funny, I’ve been growing up with her advice in her songs because it’s very much a how-to book on how to survive as a young woman, which is really special. Watching her in and of itself is how you learn. I admire her work ethic and her talent and she’s just so amazing.”

Carpenter is also carving out a lane of her own as a pop performer. Her Spotify Singles double release also included a sultry live performance of “Feather” from the deluxe edition of her fifth studio album, a release titled Emails I Can’t Send Fwd.
