“It was the first song we made together and watching him challenge himself and make beautiful art over the years has been the thrill of a lifetime,” pop star says

Taylor Swift praised her longtime musical collaborator and friend Jack Antonoff in a post on Sunday as she reflected on a new exclusive release of “Sweeter Than Fiction,” the 2013 song they cowrote, which originally appeared on the soundtrack for One Chance.

This song has always made me think of my friend Jack,” Swift posted on Instagram, alongside several photos of the friends hugging. “It was the first song we made together and watching him challenge himself and make beautiful art over the years has been the thrill of a lifetime. How can he be 6 years older than me and also somehow still be my precocious young son? We may never know.”

“Sweeter Than Fiction (My Version)” is included on 1989 (Taylor’s Version) as an exclusive Target bonus track on tangerine vinyl.

Earlier in the month, Antonoff appeared on NBC News’ Sunday TODAY With Willie Geist where he discussed their working relationship and how the “magic” is unpredictable, but it was caught on video while they working on Swift’s “Getaway Car” from Reputation.

As far as why they work so well together, Antonoff said, “I don’t know. I could quantify our relationship in very reductive ways about the things we agree on, the sounds we like. But the truth is, we’ve just grown together. She put an amazing amount of belief in me.

“And it’s powerful,” he continued. “It’s powerful for someone to — just like the way we met, where I was working and I was loving what I was doing but the industry was kind of like, ‘You can’t produce it.’ She’s like, ‘No, you produce this.’ And you know, that relationship has gone on and on and on.”

1989 (Taylor’s Version) arrived on Friday and Swift has already broken her own Spotify record for most streamed album in a single day so far this year; she previously held the record with the release of 2022’s Midnights.
