Long Beach hospital’s first 2024 baby arrives 2 weeks early

California

A baby boy named Javier was the first baby born in 2024 at Memorial Care Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Long Beach.

He arrived two weeks early.

Parents Lucerito Quevedo and Javier Gomez welcomed their baby boy at 1:38 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1 at the Cherese Mari Laulhere Birth Center. Little Javier weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces.

He is the first child born to the couple, who live in Compton.

“It was definitely an eventful and exciting way to ring in the new year,” Lucerito Quevedo said in a release sent out by the hospital. “We didn’t imagine that Javier would be born on New Year’s Day, since his due date was supposed to be January 14.”

The parents received a “First Baby Basket” stuffed with onesies, receiving blankets, bathing items and diapers from the care team at Miller Children’s & Women’s.
